Treatment for MRSA Boils with Antibiotics to Eliminate the Chance of Recurrence

MRSA is an abbreviation of methicillin- resistant staphylococcus aurous. This is a bacterium which causes skin infections. There are various types of MRSA such as CA-MRSA or community acquired MRSA, HA-MRSA of hospital acquired MRSA etc.

The staph bacteria have been responsible for causing infections since ages. However, the MRSA has been around since some time only. It was found out a couple of years after the antibiotic methicillin was being used to cure staph and other bacterial infections.

MRSA is called a super bug because it tends to become resistant to many antibiotics.

Due to the resistant strains like MRSA, the antibiotics which are used as a treatment for MRSA boils keep changing. Since a particular antibiotic cannot be used for all cases of MRSA boils, the doctors have to prescribe different ones to different cases depending on the condition. If the tests show that a person has MRSA in his body, immediate treatment is required to prevent the occurrence of an infection. Moreover, if a person has boils on his skin, a bacterial culture helps the doctor in understanding the cause of the infection. If it turns out to be a MRSA then the situation gets grave. This is solely because if the boil grows in size and depth, which it usually does, then it may reach some vital organ or an artery. This may lead to an infection in the blood. Treatment gets difficult if the situation gets out of control. Hence, it is imperative that the treatment for MRSA boils should begin without any delay.

Although MRSA has become resistant to certain antibiotics but it can be cured by some others such as avelox.

The antibiotics which are still effective in killing these dreadful bacteria are:

  1. Vancomycin,
  2. Teicoplanin,
  3. Quinupritin,
  4. Linezolid.
  5. Rifamvin,
  6. Clindamycin,
  7. Septra,
  8. Avelox
  9. Mupirocin

The MRSA has a tendency to spread to other parts of the body causing more complexities. If it affects the other organs then it may become quite lethal. Certain conditions such as endocarditis, sepsis etc may occur.

There is a colonization of the staph bacteria in the nasal passages of people. However, these do not cause any harm unless they get a chance to enter the human body through minor cuts, bruises etc.

A strong immune system can eliminate these bacteria from causing any serious problem. However, if a person with a weak immune system is attacked by the staph bacteria, he may succumb to it. The staph infection may cause impetigo, boils, toxic shock syndromes etc.

Antibiotics are indispensable for treatment of severe boils as they prevent the spread of infections. In the case of MRSA, the situation gets tough since these bacteria are resistant to most of the antibiotics which are prescribed to patients to treat the staph boils infection. Hence the treatment of MRSA is much more complicated than the treatment of the bacteria which are non-resistant.

The two main antibiotics which are given through an injection to people with weak immunity levels are Vancomycin and Teicoplanin.

Screening for MRSA is done by taking a swab of their nasal passage or skin. This is done primarily because normally a lot of people carry staph bacteria in their nasal passages. If they are found to be carrying MRSA in particular through the tests, they are treated with a topical antibiotic mupicrocin.

This is done in order to prevent these deadly bacteria from entering the body through any skin opening.

This is also effective in preventing the chances of the MRSA from spreading to other people.

It has to be kept in mind that the bacteria keep evolving due to genetic changes. The reason why so many resistant bacteria have evolved today is that people often leave their antibiotic treatment mid- way.

The week bacteria can get killed instantly but the stronger ones may get even stronger if the antibiotic course is left half way through. The stronger bacteria would reproduce bacteria which are resistant to the antibiotics. More genetic changes would make the bacteria grow more resistant. Hence a chain would build up. It is imperative to break this chain by taking the treatment for MRSA boils with antibiotics more seriously.
