Gum boils or abscesses are referred to as parulus in the medical jargon. They are points through which the tooth abscess gets drained. They occur when toxins drain out from the head of the root of a tooth which has a dead nerve.

A gum boil is medically known as a parulus. It is a point from which an abscessed tooth drains. It is a dental infection which may occur either due to certain gum diseases, a dead tooth or an infected root canal.
